I was not aware that the Z-Net G8 does not work with HS3. That should be stated on the website, in red and all caps "DOES NOT WORK WITH HS3". Then provide a quick link to the z-net that does work with HS3 or a note telling the HS3 user what to do if they have a z-net failure.
Robert - HS3 was replaced by HS4 6 years ago (in 2019) and HS3 Z-Wave plugin development stopped at that time. 800 series controllers (like Z-Wave G8) are built with a new Z-Wave API which required new Z-Wave plugin support. That said, the product page 'Requirements' sections does says 'Works with HS4 based system running the Z-Wave Plus plugin' and 'Not compatible with legacy v3 or v4 Z-Wave plugin' (in red!).
I initially installed the unit on LAN and recently switched it to WiFi to better suit my needs in outbuilding for improved coverage. During the switch over I was concerned about the procedure but when I set it for DHCP it went well. I had set the addresses into my router and found that did not have to put assigned addressing in the Z-Net. In short I am very satisfied with the performance so far. My negative review is with the addition of the Sonoff ZigBee. Had considerable problem setting it up but with tech support's help finally got it working. Found that the range coverage is very limited but does function if devices are kept with close range.
Followed the upgrade guide and the G8 works great.
